They were the first thing I noticed on the drive into Colombo from the airport and I was fascinated with the appeal and vivid colours: They looked edible, like sweets and I was drawn to make as many 'portraits' of the variations as I could find. Sri Lanka is rapidly embracing vehicle ownership, but the purchase of new tyres still remains a relative luxury and a last resort, hence the need to have an extra edge to attracting customers. The tyres, wrapped in their foils are displayed outside the garages, adjacent to the roads.
